About me
Hello, my name is Sara Douglas and I am a Pluralistic Counsellor. I have trained in a
number of different approaches such as Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy as the premise of Pluralism is that each client is individual and are
helped by different processes and activities at different times in their lives. This allows us to
talk about your past, present and future and how they, potentially, may be impacting you
resulting in the difficulties and issues you wish to bring to therapy.

I completed a year of hypnotherapy training before commencing my counselling qualification.
This is an effective intervention in treating symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and
phobias. It can also be useful in the sessions if you are experiencing difficulty with emotional
dysregulation.

I am passionate about working collaboratively and I will provide support and encouragement
for you to address the issues you face and to achieve the personal changes you wish to
make.

Therapeutic Approaches

Person-centred therapy is client based, it can enable you to become more self-aware of your emotions, and allows you to take control of your mental health. My role is to provide a non-judgmental, empathic space for you to explore and grow.

Psychodynamic therapy is a form of in-depth talk therapy that aims to bring unconscious or deeply buried thoughts and feelings to the conscious mind so that repressed experiences and emotions, often from childhood, can be brought to the surface and examined. In Psychodynamic therapy we are more of an alliance, using techniques appropriate to your state of mind.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy. It's a common treatment for a range of mental health problems. CBT teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. It focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions. My role would be to listen, teach and encourage, your role is to express concerns, learn, and implement that learning.

Why I became a counsellor

I completed a degree in Liverpool and commenced a career in hospitality working my way up to a managerial position. Working late nights, early mornings; the sleep deprivation and the pressure of the job resulted in burnout. Personal experience of stress, anxiety, burnout, overwhelm and grief, led me to my personal counselling journey. I understand how a variety of issues and difficulties can impact day to day functioning and relationships and how distressing it can be to feel out of control of your own emotions. Talking therapy can enable emotional regulation and make space to feel calmer and more focused. I understand that starting counselling can be a daunting experience. I am passionate about helping, supporting and encouraging you, and to offer a safe, non-judgemental environment for you to feel comfortable and talk through your life experiences at your own pace.
