Rachel Flaherty - Dip. Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice, Bsc Psychology.

Person Centred, CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy. NCPS (Reg)

Hi my name is Rachel, I believe in creating a supportive space where my clients feel truly heard, and feel safe to explore anything they may be facing.

With empathy and guidance we will work together to tackle your issues. I can assist you to regain your confidence and find clarity and strength to face life’s challenges.

I take a pluralistic approach to therapy, adapting my methods to meet each client's unique needs. While trained in CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Person-centred Therapy, I work primarily from a Person-centred perspective.

This means creating a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings and experiences. I listen deeply and respond authentically, helping you build self-awareness and confidence to navigate life's challenges.

My focus is on you reaching your goals, whilst offering support that is genuine and aligned with your needs

Person-Centered Therapy:
In person-centered therapy, I provide a safe, supportive space where you can explore your feelings and gain deeper self-awareness. My role is to listen with empathy and understanding, helping you find your own solutions and build confidence in your own abilities.

Psychodynamic Therapy:
Psychodynamic therapy looks at how past experiences shape present feelings and behaviours. I help you understand these deeper patterns, so you can gain insight and make positive changes in your life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
CBT focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns that affect your emotions and actions. Together, we’ll work to challenge unhelpful thoughts and develop healthier ways of thinking to improve your mood and coping skills.

Why I became a Counsellor
As with most people who pursue a career in mental health, my ‘why’ comes from wanting to understand my own childhood, the people around me and myself. This led me to studying psychology in my late twenties, with a particular focus on domestic violence and relationships; which I explored in my dissertations. Over the years, I have gained valuable experience working with adult mental health, children, and individuals with autism/adhd—helping them to nurture emotional development and overcome life’s challenges.
These experiences have deepened my understanding of human behaviour and reinforced my commitment to supporting others in their own journeys.

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or not like yourself; I’m here to help you find clarity and restore some balance.
